Bishop Martyn recently met with Father Stefan and members of Leicester’s Romanian Orthodox community.
During the visit, he was shown around the church and spoke with the congregation about the challenges they have faced in migrating to Leicester, as well as their desire to play an active part in the city’s community life and wider ecumenical relationships.
Bishop Martyn was accompanied by the Revd Dr Tom Wilson, Director of St Philip’s Centre, which supports communities in learning how to live well together.
Reflecting on the meeting, Tom said: “I was really touched when the Romanian Orthodox community got in touch to say they wanted to meet. It was a real pleasure to spend time with Father Stefan and the community, and then to return with Bishop Martyn.
“I have found it fascinating to learn how my Christian sisters and brothers from a part of the world I have never visited live out their faith as disciples of Jesus Christ. I look forward to coming back again soon.”
